| The Evolution of a company |
Originally started in 1990 by brothers Robert and Martin Vellend, Vellend Tech has gone through several changes over the years. What began as a small bicycle assembly business has grown to a National distributor for thirteen different brands. The main focus is to provide quality bicycle and bicycle products to the cycling community in Canada. Whether you are a pro roadie, hardcore downhiller, weekend warrior or fan of the bike paths, Vellend Tech has something for you. As Martin likes to say, “we sell fun”, and have been doing so for more than 15 years.
Personnel
Profiles:
Robert "sell what we have, not what we don’t have" Vellend
Former Nordic skier, retired in 1987 to pursue a career in repping and importing. These days Rob splits his time between hockey, golf, running, skiing and his three sons. He plans to compete in the World Masters Nordic Skiing Championships and other Nordic Marathons.
Rob is responsible for all products (besides Fuji) that arrive in the warehouse—therefore he’s the one with the biggest headache when spring shipping season arrives.

Martin "King of the Bike Path" Vellend
Cycling from the age of 16, Martin was a member of the Junior National Team. He also managed and coached for the Canadian National Team from 1983 to ‘87. Martin spent some time as a trucker before starting Vellend Tech with his brother. He claims it’s a good day when lots of product ships out of the warehouse, however it’s a really good day when Canadian Truck News arrives in the mail.
Martin can be seen wearing several hats around the Vellend Tech office. From business meetings to ordering Fuji bikes to shipping product, Martin can do it all, including the laundry!

Pierre "Austria is my home" Perrin
A fixture at Ontario road races, Pierre is an avid fan of all things road-riding. If you want to know about a road event in Ontario and parts of New York, he’s the guy to ask. He’s been riding for longer than he cares to admit — participating in everything from cyclocross to track.
Both shipping and receiving falls under Pierre’s job description. However, Pierre is also the go-to-guy when questions regarding Vellend Tech products need to be answered.

Darren "Technical Guru" Duke
A member of the Toronto Duke bike store clan, Darren arrived at the Vellend Tech warehouse as an assembly line worker in 1993. He stuck around and is now the Warranty and Technical department. He handles everything from the mysterious Hadley Hub inventory to Orange Bike questions to BTAC booth design. Darren and his bride-to-be can be seen at local mountain bike O-Cups, 8 hour or 24 hour races.

Ivan "Computer Wizard" Lukomski
IT department, catalogue design, web master, server administrator, digital photographer. Although he had dreams of playing for the NBA, computers were more his specialty. Ivan knows more about computers than the rest of the office staff combined. When he finds the time he rides his Fuji Mountain bike at Kelso Conservation Area. He is also the one to blame for playing Queen too loudly in the office after hours.

The "Its not easy being green" Gecko
Vellend Tech’s green gecko has lasted here in the office longer than many employees. He spends his days lounging on the plant in his tank. By some miracle of nature he also manages to hang vertically off the glass sides. Mr. Gecko enjoys eating crickets and blueberry baby food. He’s gone nameless for more than four years. Perhaps someone out there can come up with a suitable moniker.
