More than one week in the pink jersey, second on the final podium, two stage victories and the points’ jersey
Maser (Treviso), 29 May, 2012 – It was without a doubt a great Giro di’Italia in which Joaquim Rodriguez stood out as a major player, finishing second on the final podium in Milan. The Spaniard from Team Katusha was a formidable force on the awesome climbs; he took two glorious stage victories in Assisi and Cortina d’Ampezzo and after having worn the pink jersey for more than a week it was only in the last stage, the time trial in Milan, that he was forced to concede first place to Canada’s Hesjedal.
Alas, time trials are not Purito Rodriguez’s specialty, and for a mere 16” he had to take off the pink jersey and cede it to the Canadian who nevertheless deservedly won the Giro. It was actually the time trial that shook up the final classification in the pink race: first place went to Canadian Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda), second to Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) at 16” and third to Belgian Thomas De Gendt (Vacansoleil) at 1’.39”. Honours to the winner but congratulations also to Joaquim Rodriguez on his excellent performance. Rodriguez could also console himself by winning the red jersey that distinguishes the leader of the classification for points.
Sidi’d success on the roads of the 2012 Giro is rounded out as well by the white jersey for the best young rider in the classification, which was captured by Colombian Rigoberto Uran (Team Sky).
As always, accompanying Purito Rodriquez on his long, pink adventure were his Sidi Ergo 3 Carbon shoes, while Rigoberto Uran wore the Genius 6.6 Carbon. These are the shoes of champions, two models that represent the top of the line in the Sidi Sport collection. Congratulations to them and all the other champions from the Sidi Sport stables who carried the Sidi name high and proud along the roads of the peninsula during these three weeks of a fantastic Giro d’Italia.
